It's Youth Month, but also Pride Month. Many of South Africa's youth identify as part of the LGBTQI+ community, but discrimination is still an ongoing battle, despite our country's progressive legislation.

June marks not only Youth Month, but pride month as well. We still have a long way to go until the day the LGBTQIA+ community no longer have to fear for their lives because of who they are. President Cyril Ramaphosa has spoken against homophobia and violence against the LGBTQIA+ community.

Fairmont High School in Cape Town has initiated Pride Month celebrations for learners, for the month of June seeking to create awareness about LGBTQIA+ and Pride. Edgemead High School is another Cape school showing that they support all their learners with a social media post demonstrating their commitment to equality.
