The Department of Higher Education and Training had a formal event in collaboration with Nkangala TVET College to mark the official launch of TVET Month.

Sam Zungu from the Department was there to run the proceedings, and highlight the TVET College opportunity that's available for young people.

The launch of TVET Month 2025, marks 11 years of this flagship initiative designed to reshape public perception of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in South Africa. Guided by the theme “TVET for All: Skills. Opportunity. Change.”, this year’s campaign reflects the inclusive, accessible, and transformative nature of the TVET system.

Aligned with Women’s Month and International Youth Day, the launch will be officiated by the Minister or Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, and calls for greater stakeholder and industry involvement in shaping the skills ecosystem.

Another great feature of TVET College courses is that they are usually covered by NSFAS funding so students will get a free education AND allowances to help them meet their costs while they are studying.

TVET Colleges are starting to open up applications for 2026 so if you are thinking of studying there now is the time to contact your local college. There are 50 colleges across the country, and they all have multiple campuses, so there are plenty of options available.
