The Police Minister announced last month that the SAPS would be launching their Police Trainees/Internship programme, with 5,500 places available.
The entry level trainee programme is advertised as focused on young, energetic, intelligent, physically and mentally fit individuals, dedicated to serving their country by pursuing a career in Policing.
The trainee programme pays a monthly stipend of R4,500 per month and includes some benefits. The advertise that after successful completion of the trainee programme candidates will be paid R238,629 per annum.
The trainee prograamme was announced late on the day on the 30th June and almost immediately the website started to strain under the number of people trying to access the website. The website crashed a number of times for the rest of the day, and then on Tuesday morning.
It was announced later on the 1st July that 67,000 people were able to apply - despite the website problems. The demand for the programme, that only has space for 5,500 trainees.
