The Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) candidates around South Africa began their final examinations on Tuesday 1 November 2022. If ABET candidates are successful in their examinations, they will obtain a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC).
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has wished candidates well as they navigate the important examination session.
They also encouraged candidates to familiarise themselves with their examination requirements and seek clarification from lecturers on areas of uncertainty. This will ensure they understand what is required for them to be successful in their examinations.
ABET is the conceptual foundation for lifelong skills learning and development. ABET courses are available to adults who want to finish their basic education. These courses are provided at Community Education and Training (CET) colleges around the country.
The GETC qualification is registered at National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 1. This means the qualification is equivalent to a Grade 9 qualification or the old Standard 7 qualification.
Once an individual obtains a GECT qualification, they will be able to register to obtain their Senior Certificate (SC). An SC qualification is equivalent to the National Senior Certificate (NSC) which learners who pass grade 12 obtain.
The DHET called on candidates who require psychological support to contact the Higher Health helpline on 0800 36 36 36.
This psychological support is available to candidates who feel anxious about their exams or candidates who encounter non-academic challenges which may negatively affect their performance in the examination.
