If you didn’t manage to submit your child’s school admission application on time, you have been afforded another chance to do so. The Gauteng Department Education (GDE) has recently announced that they are still accepting late placement admission applications for the 2023 academic year.
Gauteng education MEC Matome Chiloane stated that the department will open for late applications from 20 December until 20 January 2023 and parents and guardians can reach them on the department’s toll-free number, email and social media platforms.
The MEC further stated that the decision was made due to the province's high migration during the beginning of the year, as parents usually relocated with their children. Those that missed the initial closing deadline have also been considered according to the MEC.
We are opening for late applications from the 20th of December up to the 20th of January. Gauteng is a province where we have a lot of migration and you find that some parents will be bringing their children to the province, so we are opening largely for them and for those who might have missed the deadline.
The Department (GDE) opened its 2023 online school admission applications for Grades 1 and 8 on 22 July 2022. At the time, The department said that it is confident that its systems would be able to handle the high volume of desperate parents racing to enrol their children for the upcoming school year.
The provincial department’s online application system remained open until Monday 19 August at midnight.
