There is a post that has been circulating on social media platforms, targeting social grant beneficiaries.
According to this post, using the gold Post Office payment card will be required to visit South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) offices in order to be issued with a new payment card.
In addition to this, the post also has claimed that should beneficiaries fail to do this, they will not receive their December month grant payments.
The national government agency has cautioned its social grant clients against this information and has also labeled it as being false.
In light of this false information, misleading the millions of individuals that are benefiting from social grants, in a statement, the Agency has clarified:
Sassa cards are still valid and active, please do not go to Sassa offices to be issued with a new card.
This comes after social grant beneficiaries had been negatively affected by a nationwide systems glitch at the South African Post Office.
The Postbank has since issued an apology to all grant recipients for the inconvenience caused, also taking note of how important the grant payments are to the livelihoods of many South Africans.
Sassa’s spokesperson advised beneficiaries using the Sassa gold cards to collect their funds at bank ATMs and at a number of retailer outlets such as Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay.
Sassa Acting CEO, Abraham Mahlangu, said that the agency would keep diversifying its grant payment channels in order to reduce reliance on any one particular access point.
Mahlangu also added that this will be done while continuing to provide the right social grant to deserving individuals at the right time and place.
