The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) confirmed how much NSFAS allowances will be for university students in November 2024.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. These NSFAS bursaries cover tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

How Much Are NSFAS Allowances For University Students

The annual NSFAS living allowance for university students is R16,500. This includes R3,045 for personal care and R13,455 for meals. Additionally, they receive a learning material allowance of up to R5,460.

Special provisions are available for students with disabilities, including higher living allowances and additional support for learning materials. The annual allowance amount may also change based on the number of modules the student is registered with and if they attend a distance learning institution like Unisa.

NSFAS allowance payments are divided into ten instalments. In November, for example, students receive a meal allowance of R1,345. Those in catered accommodation receive a personal care allowance of approximately R300.

How University NSFAS Allowances Payments Will Be Made For November 2024

NSFAS confirmed that universities will be responsible for paying student allowances for the remainder of the 2024 academic year.

This means students registered at one of South Africa’s 26 public universities will receive allowance payments directly from their institution.

Students with allowance payment challenges are encouraged to visit their campus’ financial office.
