Initially, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was meant to last for a period of six months after it was introduced, but it has since been extended a few times while maintaining its value of R350.

Research conducted by the University of Johannesburg has revealed that in 2022, more than 20 million people were recipients of the SRD grant.

According to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), the SRD grant does not have a fixed date and it is for this reason that beneficiaries ought to constantly check their payment dates.

Sassa SRD grant beneficiaries can access their grants and collect their money at several payment points during the month of June 2023.

Here’s Where You Can Collect Your SRD Grant Payments For June 2023:

Bank account

Once you submit your application and choose to receive your SRD grant funds through your personal bank, you will need to submit your banking details as part of your application process. Sassa has shared that this would make paying your R350 grant easier and faster.

CashSend Services

Should you not have a bank account, you can also receive your R350 grant through a CashSend.

This sees beneficiaries use their ID numbers and phone numbers to access their grant money. You must have a cellphone with a registered cellphone number and proof of identification.

Selected Retail Merchant

Sassa announced that grant beneficiaries can access their grant by visiting selected retail merchants such as Checkers, Boxer or PicknPay store.

However, the Agency has clarified that you will not be able to collect your grants at BP Pick n Pay Express, Pick ‘n Pay Clothing, and Pick ‘n Pay Liquor stores.

SRD grant recipients will need to wait for a notification in the form of an SMS to indicate that their grant is ready for collection before heading to the store.

Shoprite Group Money Market

Recently, the Shoprite Group has now made it possible for SRD grant holders to collect their monthly grant funds at any of their Money Markets.

How Are SRD Recipients Benefitting From The Government’s Financial Support?

New research from the University of Cape Town has revealed that this grant may have actually increased the chances of finding work for grant recipients.

One of the co-authors and UCT researcher, Tim Kohler said they have found that the SRD grant improved the labour market outcomes of recipients by 3% and these improvements were identified during the lockdown period.

There has been a decline in the number of beneficiaries receiving grants and 10% of the SRD grant beneficiaries have migrated into employment, indicated Social Development Director General Linton Mchunu.
