Protests have died down at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) which is situated on the outskirts of Durban following yesterday's events which saw students clash with the police force as they demand for historic debt to be wiped.

Please note that following student protests at MUT this morning, Executive Management has received a memo from the SRC. Executive management will respond to the memorandum after its meeting this afternoon.
Students made use of burning tyres and blocked MUT's main entrance on Thursday resulting in the arrest of a student.
KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu visited the University on Friday and is present at a meeting today to discuss a way forward.
Management and MUT's Student Representative Council are present at the meeting as well.
Free registration is also included in a list of demands given to the University.
National intervention is needed to fully address demands issued by students all over the country.
The Minister in charge of Higher Education also addressed the protest and said, "I have asked my department to investigate and intervene at the Mangosuthu University."
Police remain on standby outside the campus premises.
Classes at the University remain suspended.
