2020 was a challenging year for the learners who are preparing to write their NSC final examinations this year. However, through hard work, determination and support from their teachers they were able to finish the 2021 curriculum in time for their first end of year exam paper.
The Department of Basic Education and its partners implemented remote learning interventions to help the Matric Class of 2021 cover the curriculum. Their interventions were aimed at reducing the negative impact of COVID-19 on learning and teaching.
According to the Director of Public Exams 735 677 full-time and 162 109 part-time learners will be writing the final examinations.
The first examination paper is English Paper 1 which will be written on Wednesday 27 October 2021 at 09:00.
The last examination paper will be IT and CAT rewrite on Tuesday 7 December 2021.
The DBE has reassured all parents, guardians and learners that all health and safety protocols have been implemented to ensure the safety of learners and invigilators during exams.
Accommodations have been made for learners with Special Educational Needs, as well as those who test positive for COVID-19, to ensure that no one misses out on writing their finals.
Marking of exam scripts will begin on 8 December and end on 22 December 2021.
Once all the marks have been compiled and approved, learners will be able to collect their results on 21 January 2022.
