The Gauteng Department of Basic Education is encouraging parents to continue making use of its online admission system and avoid visiting district offices.

Online applications for Grade 1 and 8 for 2022 are currently open and are set to close on Friday 08 October 2021. The department's HOD Edward Mosuwe said that there has been an uptake, adding they received under 80 000 applications in phase two of Online Admissions.

Mosuwe also points out that the department expected 180 000 applications for its Phase Online admissions with primarily focused on internal enrollments. However, 150 000 applications have so far been processed and 30 000 parents are yet to submit their online applications.

The Head of Department further stated that they have made provisions for those who may not have internet access by opening forty-five walk-in centres throughout all the district offices in the province.

He also stated that the current regulation for admissions avail five different options on how people can apply. The first option is that can use their home, the second is to use a work address and the third is to make use of a sibling option that is made available.

The remaining two categories are that applicants should ensure that they are located within a 30-kilometre radius from the school of their choice or outside the 30-kilometre radius.

The department will then consider the applicant's first choice and proceed to the next options if the first one cannot be made available. Applicants have also been advised to notify the MEC should they experience any problems with their applications.

The first confirmations for the Phase one online applications will be processed on 15 October 2021 and those that applied during phase two will start receiving their confirmations on 12 November 2021.

Parents have also been urged to upload all outstanding documents as this may cause delays in the processing of their applications
