On Friday 26 November, a group of graduates and students went into the streets to ask motorists for as little as R5 to help them raise money for those who are struggling to pay their registration fees and tuition fees for the 2022 academic year.
The initiative aims to help as many students enrol at the university of their choice.
Enrolling at university can be quite stressful for many individuals because they are unsure about how they will be able to afford the registration fees and tuition fees. However, with the help of this initiative, many will be able to enrol and study at the university of their choice.
These students are hoping to raise at least R2 million by the end of December to help at least 800 students.
One of the graduates involved stated that the initiative helped him pay off the remaining of his tuition fees in order for him to graduate and receive his certificate. Therefore, he is now able to use his results to apply for work in the new year.
He believes that the initiative is very important in helping many disadvantaged students enrol at university, since many bursaries and NSFAS may take a while before covering their fees.
With the help of the initiative, students will be able to secure their place at university while waiting to receive funding from their various bursaries.
