We are now in the last week that beneficiaries of the old R350 grant can collect their grants should they not have.

Beneficiaries have until 31 August to claim these grants. SASSA has however said that payments will be made past this date, the deadline is just to claim it.

Uncollected grants after this date will be sent back to the National Treasury, SASSA said. This money will then be used to fund other government priorities.

Beneficiaries can call SASSA on 0800 601 011 or 012 400 2000 to verify if they have any outstanding balances that need to be collected.

You should then receive your money through the option you chose when applying with SASSA saying, "The grant will be paid using the payment method you had chosen when applying".

Payments for the new cycle of the grant are set to commence today. However, there is no set date when specific beneficiaries will receive the grant.

The SASSA grant will be paid in one of the following ways:

  1. Into the bank account of the beneficiary
  2. Through the South African Post Office (SAPO)
  3. Through Bank Money Mobile Money Transfers (cash send or e-voucher). This option is for beneficiaries who do not have bank accounts.

Beneficiaries who aren't receiving their grant money through the bank will need to wait for an SMS which will tell them that they can go fetch their grant. You should not head out to collect a grant if you did not receive an SMS.
