As the class of 2021 is expected to sit for their final examinations on Wednesday, the Department of Basic Education released a statement on measures have been put in place to prevent any leakage of examination papers and other irregularities.
Parents and learners throughout the country have signed a commitment agreement that binds them to the conditions of the commitment agreement.
These are the key conditions of the agreement as listed below:
- Any violation of the Regulations by a Matriculant will jeopardise the examination's integrity, and their results may be declared null and void, with the possibility of them being barred from taking one to three subsequent examinations.
- If a matriculant was involved in the leakage of any examination question paper, they may have criminal charges brought against them.
- Candidates must report any irregularities and leaks to the 24-hour hotline: 069 335 2818
- If a candidate receives a question paper, or part(s) of it, through email, SMS, WhatsApp, or any other electronic means, and fails to report the incident to the school principal or the WhatsApp hotline, they will be considered culpable.
- All candidates will have to complete the Electronic Devices’ Register, which will be managed by the school.
- All candidates will be required to record all details of their cell phone or any other electronic device that they will be using throughout the examination period in the Electronic Devices' Register.
- The candidate and their parent or guardian must be aware that if they accept to any assistance, regardless of who provides it (e.g., the educator, invigilator, or fellow student), they will be deemed to have colluded with the person who offered it, and the relevant consequences will be imposed.
- A candidate who is suspected of having had access to the question paper or portions of it prior to the examination must turn in his or her cell phone or any other electronic devices to the Department for further investigation.
The Matric exams commence on 27 October and will end on 6 December with Matric results being released in late January.
