In a statement issued earlier this week, the South African Post Office has said that it is working towards improving its service while processing the SRD grant payments to millions.
A total of 1 270 of the 1 329 sites (97%) have been fully commissioned with new equipment and improved connectivity. The remaining 59 sites either need alternative solutions or are too far away to have any effective infrastructure.
It added that the facility through which customers collect their grants from, such as Pick ‘n Pay and Boxer supermarkets, are becoming more popular.
In some of its branches, SAPO has introduced separate queues for grant recipients to ensure that customers who visit the facility for regular transactions are swiftly attended to.
SAPO further states that it has lost some of its revenue due to Covid-19 restrictions with a cost-saving drive. By the end of August, their expenses had totaled 88% of their annual budget.
The South Africa Post Office said that it has undertaken further measures to lower the company's fixed costs in the long run, such as voluntary severance packages.
The Post Office has also called on qualifying households to apply for free subsidised television decoders. By October 2021, almost 60 000 households applied for a subsidised decoder.
