Free clothes vouchers being given away by SASSA? Unfortunately, this is not a reality.
SASSA took to their social media to address whether a fake message floating around was true or not concerning them providing clothing vouchers.
The message which was circulating on social media read, "Take ur SASSA card and ID to Pep n apply for kids clothes voucher before the fourth of November", which SASSA responded to by issuing a Fake News Alert saying:
Please note that the information below is fake.
This is not the first time fake news has spread about SASSA issuing vouchers. In July, people were lead to believe that SASSA is issuing food vouchers of R750 to unemployed persons to which SASSA said, "We urge the public to exercise caution not to be duped by hoax messages".
Another fake message spread in June about food vouchers when a message saying that should you be struggling to make ends meet and need food, you can then approach a social worker at your nearest clinic who will then give you a letter to redeem a voucher, was spread.
SASSA has urged the public to remain alert and contact them about anyone who falsely represents themselves as one of their officials.
We appeal to the public to be vigilant, if people are uncertain about information purporting to be from SASSA.
