The South African Social Security Agency has taken to Twitter to warn its clients about the circulation of Facebook posts selling SASSA Gold Cards.
The post offers to sell and deliver the SASSA Gold cards to clients for a purchasing fee of R2500 and claims that social grant recipients will receive a monthly payment of R1850 over a period of three years.
SASSA promptly responded to alert beneficiaries that this is a scam and that they do not sell their Gold Cards.

The SASSA/Post Office gold card accounts are opened and managed in accordance with the contract between SASSA and the SA Post Office.
Social grant beneficiaries then have the option of accessing their funds at any bank ATM, merchant point of sale device, post office, or any of the remaining SASSA cash pay points.
Because it is a fully-fledged debit card, the SASSA/Post Office gold card can also be used anywhere and VISA cards are accepted for purchasing products.
SASSA is the only entity that is mandated by the Department of Social Development to disperse social grants.
These grants include the Care Dependency Grant, Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, Foster Child Grant, Old Persons Grant, War Veteran's Grant, Grant-In-Aid as well as the Social Relief Of Distress Grant.
