The National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations commenced on Wednesday, 27 October 2021 with a total of 897,786 candidates sitting for these exams this year. The last examination is set to take place on 7 December 2021.
Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schafer has wished the matric class of 2021 well as they write their final exams.
A very, very good luck to every one of our matrics for your very last school exams ever.
Schafer acknowledges that the Matrics have faced many challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic which has caused disruptions to the 2021 academic year but she reminds them that everyone is rooting for them.
"We look forward to celebrating your results with you in January," says Schafer.
She encourages the matrics to do their best for these exams and reassures them that there are other options available if they are unhappy with their results next year.
"Just focus, do your best and soon it will be over," says Schafer.
She also reminds the matrics to eat healthily and get enough sleep in preparation for their exams.
The Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Blade Nzimande echoed the message of Schafer assuring matric learners that higher education institutions are ready to welcome them.
"I wish to take this opportunity to wish the Grade 12 learners, the matric class of 2021, all the best in their exams," said Nzimande.
He has urged them "to remain cool, calm and confident," while they are writing their exams.
Just to put them at ease the post-school education and training sector is ready and also NSFAS is ready to receive your applications.
NSFAS applications for 2022 are set to open on 2 November 2021 and close on 7 January 2022.
President Cyril Ramaphosa also wished the matrics success in their final preparations and examinations, letting them know that they have the support of the entire nation.
This year we place our arms of support around the Class of 2021 who have persevered and endured in their effort to create a better future for themselves, their families and our economy. We wish you the best of success in your final revision and in your examinations, which will lay the foundations for your life as independent, adult members of our society.
Matrics are encouraged to study hard and make use of the resources available to them such as past papers and exercises in order to understand the material for their exams. They are also encouraged to form small study groups to share knowledge and resources with one another. They are however reminded to adhere to all Covid-19 health and safety protocols such as wearing a mask which covers the mouth and nose, washing or sanitizing their hands regularly and maintaining social distancing.
