The South African Social Security Agency has announced that beneficiaries who have unclaimed R350 grants from the first round of grants are encouraged to collect their payments.
Previously, the agency announced that these beneficiaries would have until the 31st of August to collect their funds, however, many did not meet the deadline.
Therefore, they have extended the cut off date to 30 November 2021.
Funds that are not collected by the cut off date will be forfeited to the State which will be used to fund other government priorities.
Beneficiaries may collect their funds from their local Post Office. They are reminded to take their Identity Document (ID) with them when collecting the unclaimed payments.
The agency urges beneficiaries to collect their payments because it would be a shame for them to lose out on funds that could have helped them provide for their families.
Busisiwe Memela-Khambula, SASSA’s CEO, stated that “It's an early Christmas for the first cycle's approved beneficiaries who could not claim their benefits at the Post Office. We welcome this decision which was brought about by the visionary leadership of Minister Lindiwe Zulu.”
