The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has recently reinstated the Special COVID-19 SRD grant to assist those who need help to stay afloat during this pandemic.

The agency has received many applications since the social grant was reinstated however, not all beneficiaries have received their payments.

SASSA then encouraged beneficiaries to check their application status online to see if there was an issue with their application.

Some beneficiaries may have received an application status that reads “Aug Approved” and may be wondering what it means.

“Aug Approved” means that the beneficiary’s application for the August period has been approved. This means that all they need to do is check the “payday” field on their profile for an indication of when they will receive their payment.

If there is no payday date, then the payment has not been processed yet.

Beneficiaries are reminded that they may collect their payments at merchants or bank ATMs or even use their cards to pay for goods, without withdrawing their money.

Those whose grants are approved and paid through the post office are advised to wait on their SMS notice before visiting the post office as this may cause overcrowding and disappointment.

The SMS will clarify when and where they may collect their grant.

Beneficiaries are reminded that the SRD grant is not paid by the post office during the regular social grant payments for older persons, disability and child support grants.

SASSA states that “caregivers are also reminded that individuals who receive child grants and are eligible for the R350 relief grant are paid via their Sassa payment card.
