So you've gone in and did a SASSA SRD status check and found that your application was declined because of 'Existing SASSA grant'. Here's what that means and what you can do.

If your R350 grant application was declined and you were shown a 'Existing SASSA grant' SRD status, you might want to know further details about this.

One of the main requirements to qualify for the R350 grant is that you have no other sources of income coming to you as well as having no grants or UIF funds being sent to you. If you do, your application will be declined.

So if you saw 'Existing SASSA grant' as the reason behind your SRD grant application being rejected, this means that when SASSA went in to check their database after you submitted your application, they found that you are already a current SASSA beneficiary. This means that you are already receiving a grant from them and you then don't qualify.

The only grantholder which would be eligible for the grant is someone who receives the Caregivers' grant of R595 per month.

If you were given this reason for your rejection but find that you don't actually receive any grants or you believe that you've been unfairly declined, you can then submit a SASSA appeal. The appeal has to be lodged on the website within 30 days of when your rejection status became available to you.

This appeal will mean that SASSA has to reconsider your application and you will have to give them good reason as to why you believe you should receive the grant.

How To Appeal For SRD Grant

  1. Go to the SRD Grant website
  2. Scroll down to 'Application for reconsideration'
  3. Click on the yellow bar
  4. Fill in the required fields

Once you've submitted your SRD appeal, you will then need to track it. Click here to find out how.

The outcome of your appeal will be relayed to you through SMS.
