The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) is an independent assessment body which offers a range of certified assessments, benchmarked assessments, and training, including the National Senior Certificate (NSC).

While the 2022 IEB matric class achieved a 98.42% pass rate, some learners who were not satisfied with their results opted to participate in the May/June rewrite examinations with the goal of improving their marks.

The May/June examinations opened from 1 March and concluded on 15 March 2023. Results for the rewrite exams were released on 29 June 2023.

All matric learners who sat for the IEB May/June rewrite examinations can now request to have their scripts remarked should they feel necessary.

How IEB Exam Re-marks Work

The IEB matric exam remarks allow students to request a re-marking of their examination papers if they believe that their results do not accurately reflect their performance.

This process aims to address any potential errors or oversights that may have occurred during the initial marking of the papers.

One of the key advantages of the IEB Matric Exam Remarks is the rigorous quality assurance processes implemented by the IEB. The IEB's marking standards are known for their reliability and accuracy, ensuring that each examination paper is marked consistently and fairly.

However, it is important to note that the IEB Matric Exam Remarks are not a mere second chance for students to improve their results. Instead, they serve as a means to address potential errors or discrepancies that may have occurred during the initial marking process.

How To Request A Re-mark

The process of requesting a remark is straightforward. Candidates can find all the details and information on how the process works for this with the results that they receive as they are given together.

Candidates can then apply online (if required and necessary) directly to the IEB via their website as the school cannot apply on their behalf. All applications for this must be submitted to the IEB by the due date which will be released with the results.

Once your re-mark request is submitted, the IEB then reviews the examination papers and assigns them to experienced examiners for re-marking.

Matric learners who wish to request a re-mark should note that IEB exam remarks costs R830 and re-checks costs R420 for 1 or more papers.

Remark applications (May exams only) for IEB candidates will close on 7 July and results are expected to be released on Thursday, 27 July 2023.
