Millions of vulnerable people receive grants from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). These grants include: SRD Grant, Care Dependency Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, Older Persons Grant, Grant-In-Aid, and War Veterans Grant.

Sassa distributes grants in terms of the Social Assistance Act. Under the framework of the act, Sassa oversees the implementation of various social assistance programs. This includes the distribution of social grants to vulnerable people living in South Africa.

So does Sassa pay grants on weekends?

Sassa has made it clear that grant payments are not made on weekends. They have also clarified that grant payments will not be made on public holidays.

This means that should grant payments start on a Friday, the next payment would only take place on the following Monday or working day. Sassa grants payments for permanent grants are usually made during the first week of the month.

Should the month start during a weekend, payments will then only commence the following working day.

As for the SRD grant, they are made at the end of the month. Sassa conducts various verification checks to ensure the grant applicant meets the qualifying criteria for the grant.

Where To Collect Your Sassa Grant

Grant beneficiaries can collect their social grants at various retail outlets such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Usave, and Checkers, using your Sassa card.

SASSA beneficiaries can receive their SASSA payments from selected supermarkets, such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, USave merchants, Checkers and Shoprite, and obtain this through their SASSA card or by getting the amount directly transferred into their bank account

Alternatively, beneficiaries can choose to have their grant paid directly into their bank account. This grant payment method allows beneficiaries access to their funds at any time after Sassa completes the payment.

It is very efficient and easy for you if your Sassa grant can be paid into your bank account. Remember that the bank account must be in your name as Sassa cannot pay the grant into a bank account that is in someone else's name.

It doesn't affect the payment dates of the Sassa grants if they are paid into your bank account instead of you physically collecting them.

There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed

Mobile cash pay points provide another avenue for grant beneficiaries, though with limited flexibility. However, grants can only be collected during specific hours in the grant payment cycle.
