The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants to millions of financially vulnerable individuals across South Africa.

Sassa has urged SRD applicants to accurately declare their marital status and indicate whether their names have changed since applying. This is because the agency verifies personal details with the Department of Home Affairs each month to determine eligibility.

If your name or surname does not match Home Affairs’ records, your SRD grant application may be rejected. To prevent this, ensure your personal information is accurate and up to date.

How to Update Your Personal Information for SRD Applications for September 2025

  • Step 1: Visit the official Sassa SRD website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/
  • Step 2: Select 'Click here to proceed' under the 'South African ID Holders' tab.
  • Step 3: Scroll down to the section where you can update your personal information.
  • Step 4: Enter your ID number, full names, and surname exactly as they appear on your South African ID document.
  • Step 5: Submit your updated information for verification.

Note: Your names and surname will only be updated if they match the Department of Home Affairs' database. If there is a mismatch, your SRD application may still be declined.

Why Updating Your Information Matters

Updating your personal details is especially important if you've recently married or legally changed your surname through Home Affairs. Inaccurate or outdated information can lead to delayed or rejected SRD grant payments.

Make sure all submitted details are correct and current to avoid disruptions to your SRD grant for September 2025.
